Gills Goes Green with New PLA Packaging.

PLA packaging is projected to have major positive impacts in the industry.

Gills Onions proudly announces the conversion of our entire retail product line to PLA (polylactide) packaging. “We are pleased to move to this environmentally friendly material,” said Stacy Mann, Purchasing Manager for Gills Onions. “We know how important it is, especially for a company our size, to be ecologically responsible. Converting to PLA will make a big impact in a positive way,” she said. What is PLA? It is a recyclable material which biodegrades in composting material, and can be used as a valuable soil amendment. It is made from renewable resources such as corn, rice, sugar beets, sugar cane, wheat or sweet potatoes. What are other advantages of PLA? Fewer fossil fuels are required to produce PLA and it also emits less carbon dioxide because of its renewable resources as a feedstock.
