Gills Onions has partnered with the University of California, Santa Barbara’s Bren School of Environmental Science & Management, to benchmark our sustainability efforts and to establish future direction for continuous process improvements. As part of this partnership, in 2009 a group of graduate students evaluated Gills Onions’ material, water, and energy flows and developed a comprehensive set of strategies that would move the company closer to its zero waste goal. In an effort to further education in this area, we have participated and presented our sustainability story at various venues, including Oxnard College, the San Joaquin Valley Clean Energy Organization, the Core Group, and the LAEDC Green Task Force.
